Blue Cross River Rink Winterfest
2 min readBy Olivia George
For 27 seasons, Winterfest has been Philadelphia’s favorite winter tradition on the Philly Waterfront, inviting visitors for a chance to indulge in flights of fancy under the sparkling lights at a winter wonderland with spectacular views of the Delaware River, complete with comforting warming cabins, physically distanced fire pit stations, games for the young and young-at-heart, delicious food and refreshing drinks, the signature holiday tree, and of course skating. Now, Blue Cross River Rink is about five hours and 5 minutes away from Armstrong County so if any of these activities seem interesting, it may be worth the drive. Winterfest is a top destination for anyone looking for safe family fun. Blue cross River rink is open November 27th to March 7th. This season at Winterfest keeps the fun and games going with the boardwalk games and Ferris Wheel that visitors have come to love during Summerfest. Show off one’s skills at the basketball toss, take aim at balloon darts, and try one’s luck at the balloon water race before hopping on the Ferris wheel for sky-high views of the waterfront and Philadelphia Skyline. Admission to the rink is $5 and on-site skate rentals are available for $10. After a few laps on the river rink, warm up at the open-air lodge, where winter cocktails and comfort food from Chickie’s and Pete’s are on the menu. A host greets and seats all guests, and indoor tables are available for parties up to four people from the same household. Outdoor concessions are available for those who like to take in the sites and the crisp winter air with their meal. As a part of updated measures for 2021, all food, hot cocoa, cider, and other goodies can be enjoyed in the designated dining area, where tables are spaced six feet apart. Two students, Bryant Pampeno and Mayson Kelly explained that they have never heard of Blue Cross River rink Winterfest but were highly interested in attending the event this year. Hopefully, this winter fun event seems interesting to you and may have you thinking about going.
