Halloween Decorations

As the holiday season comes to a beginning, pumpkins and eerie eye-catching props get placed on display. Some traditional Halloween decorations are pumpkins, spider-webs, orange lights, ghost, spiders, bats and skeletons.

We decorate for Halloween due to ancient beliefs that souls of the dead return home, decorating is to help ward off spirits. Whether it’s our body or our homes that we decorate, we do it to ward off evil. Some popular Halloween decorations are the 5ft skeletons. Some people keep them up all year around and decorate them for every other just for the spooky holiday. Another popular item is anything skeleton.

Some people don’t decorate for Halloween and just decorate for fall with some orange lights and pumpkins. When interviewing Jonathan Sadler about how his family decorates yearly, he told me “Well we have two sides of the house. One side is strictly for Halloween while the other side is for fall.” Jonathan also told me his favorite Halloween decorations are animatronics even though he can’t afford them. When interviewing former Lenape Tech student Kalob Cunningham about how his family decorates for Halloween yearly, he told me “We put spiders on the windows, in the bushes, and we place cobweb decorations everywhere. We place a few signs that say trick or treat on our front lawn. We have a skeleton, but we never really put it out for some reason”

Whether you decorate for Halloween or fall, or you don’t decorate at all, we all find decorations we like. Whether it’s pumpkins or skeletons or just some pretty lights we like to see the festivity. As we go into the spooky season watch out for the decorations, you never know what kind of things you will find if you look close enough.
