What is the Lenape restaurant? Lenape’s restaurant is a place where the students in Culinary Arts get to learn and make food for staff, other students and the public. There they will learn how to prepare, make the food, plate, and serve. Students also learn how to work as a team and build leadership.

Let’s get to know the teacher a little before getting into how the restaurant works. In Culinary Arts, the teacher, Mrs. Fahlor teaches them and walks them through all the steps of how a restaurant works. When a student doesn’t understand or makes a mistake, she helps correct it. Past and present students of Mrs. Fahlor have said that she is a wonderful teacher and that she is really sweet.

Lenape’s restaurant can get crazy, but the students get the orders done and ready in the time they need. Working in a kitchen with teens can get overwhelming, however students move past it and continue their work. Before the days of restaurant, the students get everything prepped and ready to make so that it is easier to do the orders. Since the PM students only have a short amount to get restaurant ready, the AM students help. When interviewing Amelia Zimmerman, a student from Culinary Arts, she said, “The restaurant is very fast paced, but we get to be creative with making the menu and if cooking is something you’re really passionate about then you love to be creative with it just like anything you do that you love.”

When ordering from Lenape’s restaurant, people can come in and sit in the dining room and enjoy their meal or call in and have it to go. Each week the menu will stay the same for the most part except for the special. To keep Lenape’s restaurant different, students will make a new menu and come up with new recipes for people to try. When interviewing Brayden Galbraith, a student from Culinary Arts, he said, “I would say restaurant is not for everyone. It is fast paced and takes a lot of composure to ensure that food gets handled correctly and served correctly. Also you have to make sure you’re doing good at the right thing.”

A restaurant in a school can be cool and watching students learn how to do tasks is rewarding. Not only do the students learn how to be perfectionists in culinary, but they also learn to build leadership and responsibility.
