What is national puppy day? National puppy day is a day to celebrate and encourage adoption around the world. A day not only to celebrate but to also take the time to investigate adoption for a puppy. People celebrate in so many different ways. A puppy doesn’t stay a puppy for long.
Since there are so many breeders out there breeding dogs for puppies not all of them make it to homes. The ones who don’t get picked tend to go to the shelters which is why all our shelters are full of mainly puppies. Some of them don’t even make it to the pound because people will drop them off at farms or random places. More and more puppies and dogs are suffering from this.
National puppy day could be someone’s excuse to go adopt a puppy. Going through adopting can be difficult but also worth it. First people will do research on the puppy they want. Next, they will find a local shelter or rescue group and go visit to meet the puppy. After they confirm it’s a good fit, they will complete an adoption application which will ask for the person’s name, address, reasons for adoption and more important information. Then, the person may meet with a counselor and after pay the adoption fee. Finally, they will be able to take the puppy home and probably the vet. When interviewing Miley George, a student from cosmetology, she said, “I think it’s a good thing because there’s so many puppies that need homes and love and not every puppy gets the “life” you think a puppy should. Some don’t even have a great home or place to stay.” When interviewing Caleb Shaulis, a student from LIT, he said, ”I didn’t know that this day was a thing. To be honest I think my family got our dog named Gunner either on that day or around it. I feel that this day should be more well known to help all the dogs around the world.”
National puppy day is celebrated on March 23rd this year. People celebrate national puppy day in many different ways. People who have puppies will get them treats, toys or take them to the dog park if they have one in their town or city. Others will spend the day with theirs or if they don’t have one, they go adopt or rescue one.
National puppy day is a special day to show love to a puppy or dog. It’s sad to include the thought of adoption just to give a puppy its forever home. Although adopting a puppy for the first time can be exciting. Even though a puppy doesn’t stay a puppy for long, they are still adorable.
