March 30th is National Drug and Alcohol awareness month.
Drugs and alcohol are everywhere. I know everyone has heard the saying ‘’Drugs kill dreams’’, but it is true they do. For example, Chris Harren was a basketball legend from Fall River Massachusetts he was going from one level to the next. He fell victim to drug abuse. Chris has gone through recovery after recovery and he got drafted by the Dever Nuggets, but was traded to his hometown Boston Celtics. After that trade he fell victim to substance abuse again. He ultimately departed from the NBA and began another mission. He has been clean since 2008, and he now goes everywhere to speak to people around the world about drug abuse.
Throughout the nation, 10 million young people (ages 12 to 29) need substance abuse treatment. Among the millions, only 1 in 10 adolescents who have a substance use disorder receive the professional treatment they deserve. Some of the most abused drugs are marijuana, cocaine, crack, opioids (including heroin), LSD, ecstasy, and methamphetamine.
Among youth, the top 3 substances (in ranked order) are alcohol, marijuana, and vaping products like e-cigarettes.
The use of marijuana is huge right now in our society it is the most common among teenagers
86% percent of teenagers that knows someone who smokes, drinks or uses drugs. 50% percent of teenagers who have misused a drug at least once in their lifetime.
9/10 individuals who abuse nicotine, alcohol or other drugs began using these substances before the age of 18. People who began using addictive substances before age 15 are 7 times more likely to develop a substance problem than those who first use after age 21.
There have been countless deaths due to complications involving drugs in the music industry. Most recent juice wrld who overdosed from com. Mac Miller also overdosed with complications involving drugs. Furthermore there have been countless others. Drugs can tare a family apart quickly.
