Going back to school can be stressful, but nothing is more stressful than trying to find what to wear. Being in a trade school makes this even harder.

In a trade school students need to look professional. It is a challenge to look professional and have a unique style at the same time. The student body needs to make sure they are in dress code, not only to not break rules but also to keep them safe in the technical program that they choose. Here are some tips to stay in dress code. Make sure not to wear jeans with holes, but if it feels like a need wear leggings underneath. Also wear shirts that are not revealing.

In the article, “Professional Attire Basics: Understanding Dress Expectations for the Interview and at Work,” they write a casual outfit would include T-shirt, jeans, shorts, patterned skirt, and sneakers or work boots. Dressing to be professional in a trade school is a bit different than dressing professionally. To be professional in a trade school mostly means being safe.

When Mia Umphrey, an Allied Health student, was asked how she tries to look professional at school she answered, “I tend to dress in more athletic clothing. Some things may include leggings, tennis shoes, and a plain shirt that isn’t revealing. I also prefer to have my hair up and out of the way.” Brooklyn Johnson, a welding student, was asked what she wears to look professional at school she replied with, “I wear clothes that will keep me safe in shop. For example, I wear jeans without holes, a good shirt, boots, and sometimes a hat.”

Stress is a big part of going back to school. Hopefully, the advice written will help take some of that stress away and allow students to go back to school feeling and looking good, because at Lenape back to school fashion isn’t just about what is trendy it is also about safety.
