National Barbie Day is marked on March 9th and commemorates a renowned toy that debuted on this day in 1959. Barbie had her first revealing at the American International Toy Fair, located in New York.

Ruth Handler created the Barbie doll in 1959, establishing an American icon. Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts, and she comes with an entire collection of accessories. Prior to Barbie, toy manufacturers mass-produced toys with no adult elements. Barbie’s adult characteristics distinguished the toy as unique.
Barbie’s amazing sense of style and boundless opportunities for imaginative play captivated younger children and collectors from the moment she hit the stores. She has served as a great role model for generations of girls, inspiring them to dream big and aim for the stars. Since her debut, Barbie has pursued various careers, from astronaut to doctor, defying gender conventions along the way.
National Barbie Day, like other holidays, can be celebrated in many ways. During an interview with Vic Major, a Lenape Tech student from ADT, said that, “I didn’t like them as much as other dolls because their joints don’t move much in comparison to other dolls. I preferred Monster High dolls because they looked cooler.” Another student from ADT, Skyler Ferraro, he said, “Ryan Gosling.” He obviously enjoyed the movie. Whether someone recognizes National Barbie Day or not, most can agree that the doll has made a significant impact on society today.
