This day is called Veteran<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">\u2019s Day. Initially, it was called <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">Armistice Day when it first became a federal holiday in 1938. However, in 1954, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">President<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> Dwight D. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">Eisenhower <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">igned legislation which changed the name of the holiday so that any Veteran is recognized, not just the ones who served in <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">World War I. Most people <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">don\u2019t<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> k<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">now that it took 19 years for Veterans Day to become a federal holiday <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">whereas<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> before that, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">President Woodrow Wilson only declared it to be Armistice Day<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> to commemorate the end of World War I <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">on November 11, 1918. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">In 1926, congress passed a resolution to make November eleventh an annual observance. This <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">was a big deal<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> for the U.S. a<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">s most people feel that every soldier should be noticed and thanked for fighting for our country. Veteran\u2019s Da<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">y is now a holiday that every citizen in America has been made aware of<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">. A day to remember the people who fought for us<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> and forever had their lives <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">impacted<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> mentally and physically and a day to remember the people who fought for us and unfortunately<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">didn\u2019t<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> make it out of the fight. This holiday is extremely important and valu<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">ed by many people. It is important to keep in mind that many people have lost their family and friends due to them fighting to keep people that they <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">don\u2019t<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> even <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">know<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> safe. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">So,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> this year, when November 11<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun Superscript SCXW55295213 BCX8\" data-fontsize=\"12\">th<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> comes around, remember that it <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">isn\u2019t<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> just a day <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">off<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> school. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\">It\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> a day in history that changed everything<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW55295213 BCX8\"> for the United States after four years, three months, and two weeks of war.
