Daylight Savings started Sunday, March 14th and ends at 2:00am on Sunday, November 7th. However, New legislation seeks to move Pennsylvania to Daylight Saving Time permanently. On April 5th, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed legislation that, if approved and passed by the state senate and signed by Governor Tom Wolf, would establish that the commonwealth approves of making daylight savings permanent. That would mean if U.S. Congress approved, Pennsylvanians would no longer set their clocks back to standard time in the fall. With a vote total of 103-98, the state house joins 15 other states in proposing this change (Though it is not currently allowed by federal law). Congress must pass a law to allow states like Pennsylvania to move permanent daylight savings time, and U.S. Sen Marco Rubio (R-Florida) has recently proposed such a move. The PA bills primary sponsor was state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie. According to Pennsville, he cited studies that claim staying on daylight saving time will \u201csave energy,\u201d reduce traffic crashes, reduce crime, and lead to \u201chealthier lifestyles.\u201d He also noted that less than 40 % of the countries around the world recognize daylight savings time, and that number is decreasing. The reason for daylight saving time has long been to save energy. The time change was first instituted in the U.S. during World War 1, and then reinstituted again during WW 2, as a part of the war effort. The bill (House Bill 335) now moves to the state senate. Apparently, Bryant Pampeno <\/strong>and Morgan Mckeel <\/strong>knew what daylight savings was when I asked, \u201cHave you heard of Daylight Savings Time?\u201d I then asked if they felt it was useful and they both replied with \u201cyes.\u201d Most people do know of or about it. This legislation doesn\u2019t decrease the amount of daylight available to residents, it just shifts the daylight hours to align more with the working and living hours of people\u2019s lives.
