National Pet Day is on April 11th and honors all pets, including cats, dogs, birds, fish, and even reptiles. On this day, many owners go above and beyond to provide their pets with the love and attention they deserve. National pet day was founded in 2006 by Colleen Paige. The reason for this special day is to celebrate the joy that pets bring into people’s lives. This holiday first started in the United States, but slowly expanded internationally. In the United States, 67% of households have some type of pet whether it’s a dog, cat, fish, etc. When speaking with Laykin Pierce about the pets she has she replied with, “I have two ferrets, a dog, and some fish that I will be celebrating national pet day with this year.” Stores such as Petco, target and more usually have sales going on for national pet day so you can treat your pet for a discounted price on this special day. Pet parents can also celebrate this special day by putting on a pet movie and cuddling up on the couch with your fur Buddy. When speaking with Jazmin Lentz about her plans with her fur Buddy on this day Jazmin replied with, “I plan on taking my dog to the park so she can have fun on this special day.” In conclusion, pet owners should make sure they spend April 11 with their beloved fur buddies.
