Christmas Eve has been a holiday since the 1600’s. It is always celebrated on December 24th, the day or evening before Christmas Day. Christmas Eve isn’t just the day before Christmas, it’s a day people go to their church to worship and celebrate. Others like plays of the birth of Jesus, sing songs and have a bit of fun.
Christmas Eve is when parents tend to make sure they have everything ready for Christmas itself. They make sure the kids are sleeping before they do anything and maybe watch a movie or read a story to them before bed. They also make sure all the presents are wrapped up after the kids are in bed. Lastly, they get the food ready to be cooked the next day for dinner. Childrens whose parents are divorced tend to split the two days between them.
People celebrate Christmas Eve differently. Some people will bake and finish decorating while others may watch movies and play games. For children, parents will make hot chocolate and read a book to them or teach them to leave milk and cookies out for Santa Claus. When interviewing Hailey Cricks, a student from Natural Resources, about what she does for Christmas Eve she said, “We normally spend it at my grandparent’s house with a large some of my family.” When interviewing Liv Anderson, a student from Automotive, about how she celebrates Christmas Eve she said, “With my family, we make cookies and watch Christmas movies.”
Christmas Eve isn’t just a day before Christmas, but also a day to honor Jesus’s birth and spend time with family. It’s also a day for children whose parents are separated to spend time with the parent. Knowing how people may celebrate Christmas Eve can help others know how to or give them more ideas.
