Thanksgiving recipes By Tiana Switzer

Thanksgiving is more than just a meal or another day in November, it’s a day where families come together, some from out of state or even maybe some you haven’t seen in a while, it’s celebrated with games, laughter and most importantly the food, So why not take some of these dishes to this year’s family gathering and really be the head of the table this year. 

 

  Garlic herb crusted turkey- ingredients needed for this include; a whole turkey, butter, garlic, rosemary, thyme and sage, for the inside of your turkey put together a mixture of; garlic, onion, lemon and butter, lastly you want to make sure to baste it with butter every 30-45 minutes to ensure that the turkey is nice, flavorful and not dry, cook for 13-15 minutes per pound at 325-350 degrees. 

 

  Stuffed acorn squash– ingredients needed for this include;2 acorn squash cut in half with the seeds removed,1 cup of cooked wild rice, ½ a cup mushrooms diced, ½ a cup of dried cranberries, ¼ cup of chopped pecans and seasonings; salt, pepper, olive oil and thyme and cook for 45 minutes to an hour on 375-400 degrees. 

 

  Cranberry orange upside down cake– ingredients needed for this include; 1 cup of cranberries, ½ a cup of sugar, vanilla and orange cake mixes and cook for 30-60 minutes on 350 degrees. 

 

  Green bean casserole– ingredients needed for this include;2 cans of green beans,2 cans of cream of mushroom soup, the optional topping of crispy onions to put over the top and just for taste add some salt and pepper and cook for 25-30 minutes on 350 degrees. 

 

  Parker house rolls– ingredients needed for this include;1 ½ cups of milk,1 stick of unsalted butter cut into cubes, ½ sugar, 1 package of active dry yeast, ½ cup warm water, 3 large eggs, 1 ½ teaspoons of salt, 6 cups of all-purpose flour and cook for 15 to 30 minutes on 350-400 degrees. 

 

So, even if you don’t exactly celebrate Thanksgiving, give one of these a try this holiday season even if it is just for yourself.
