Candy Do’s and Dont’s By Nichol Schawl

3 min read

October is coming and so are the kids. Candy season is here! During Halloween, candy will be flying off the shelves. It is the time of spooks and candy. Kids run the streets from door to door saying, “Trick or Treat.” At the end of the night, kids always compare their candy and switch what they do not like. There are many different types of candies that kids like, but there are also kinds they despise. Here are some helpful preferences on what kids would want and what kids would not want.
For starters, kids do not want something “healthy” as a treat. It seems like every year there is always that one neighbor that loves to give carrots or celery to all the kids in the neighborhood. That is not candy and the children sure would not hide that from their family for trading. If one is curious about another item to not give kids, it is black licorice. This type of licorice does not compare to the red licorice. Black licorice has a taste of being sweet, bitter, salty, and sour to different people. While some may taste the sweetness of the licorice, others might taste the salty side.
Every kid is different. From food allergies to taste buds, lots of kids cannot eat the candy we consider “the best.” One candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups because of allergies to peanuts. A peanut allergy is a common allergy amongst kids today. On an online survey from Field Agent, one child said that the Reese’s, “Tastes good and makes me happy.” Some kids it might make happy, but what does one do for the kids that are allergic? Get a type of alternative candy that is still good and will not cause an outbreak. A good candy for Halloween is Sour Patch Kids. This is a popular candy because it can be sour, but also sweet at the same time. On the same online survey, one kid said, “I like that it’s sour than sweet.” If you do not want to go with a peanut buttery or a sour type of candy, there is also just regular Hershey’s chocolate. There is nothing wrong with going simple. Chocolate is always a good go to candy bar. There are so many different options with Hersheys that could be gotten from the store. There is the original chocolate bar, dark chocolate, almond, and so many more.
When a survey was conducted at Lenape Technical School, for ten students, the ranking for favorite candy was Sour Patch Kids. Following behind Sour Patch Kids was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and then finally, Hershey Bars. Seems like many of the kids asked can agree that they like the sour and sweet taste more than just normal chocolate or peanut buttery chocolate.
If kids are knocking on the door during Halloween, make their nights by having the candy they prefer. Head on down to your local store and start your candy trip for all the kids!
