On January 2nd it is world introvert day. This is a day to show what it means to be an introvert and that being the “quiet one” isn’t shameful. They celebrate this on January 2nd because it’s the day after all the dreaded festivities. This is when they can get peace and recharge their social battery. This day is celebrated not by parties, but by canceling one.

What is an introvert? Introverts prefer a calm environment and limit social engagements. These people tend to be happier in their own company. On September 20, 2011, Felicitas Heyne wrote a blog post titled, “Here’s why we need a world introvert day” according to nationaltoday.com. Some fun activities to do for World Introvert Day is to stay home. It’s a perfect day to cancel plans and stay in bed watching movies in your pajamas, ignoring all the noise of the outside world. Another activity would be a nice quiet walk. Take a pet on a long walk down the street, it’s a perfect opportunity for some self-reflection. Introverts are most productive when alone so lastly an activity you can do is create something. Write a poem or paint to show off the creativity you have.

When Interviewing Q Patsy on what her thoughts were on world introvert day she said, “I love that introverts get their own day. Everyone, especially introverts, needs a day to wind down and relax after the stress of the holidays. Having a day to just exist is amazing for your mental health. Just allowing yourself to settle back into normal life and be.” When interviewing Peyton Shaffer she said, “I think it’s a cool day to have.”

Introvert Day is important to show support to introverts in our lives. You don’t have to become an introvert to show support, it’s just about showing you understand.
