The Titanic crashed into an Iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage to Southampton to New York on April 15, 1912. At least 1,500 died on the boat and only about 712 people survived. In 1985, the wreck was found deep on the Atlantic seafloor by Robert D. Ballard. The Titanic was a British-Registered ship owned by a US company. It was built by Harland and Wolff of Belfast, Ireland. It was 882.5 feet and 46,329 tons overall. When some students were questioned about it, they spoke that ‘they knew about the Titanic, but not specifics.’ Most said when questioned about it. The Titanic was found by Robert Ballard, on September 1, 1985, and is currently located at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, about 12,500 feet (3,810 meters) underwater. One the other hand, there’s another date to talk about. World War II.
It was the biggest and deadliest war in history, spanning six whole years. Among the millions (which represented 3% of the global population at the time) of people killed, about six million Jews were killed in the Nazi concentration camps. This was part of Hitler’s ‘Final Solution,’ now recognized as the Holocaust. A few students were questioned and some said, ‘they knew about it’ but a few others have said that ‘they knew the finer details of the war.’ It evolved more than 30 countries’ and was fought over multiple, including, Europe, Aisa, and Affrica.
Another date that everyone should know is 9/11. On September 11, 2001, were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks. They killed nearly 3,000 people. The plains where hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists. Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City. At 9:03 a.m., Flight 175 struck the South Tower. AT 9:59 a.m., The South Tower collapsed, following the intense fire caused by the jet fuel. Finally, at 10:28 a.m., The North Tower collapsed. At 9:37 a.m., Flight 77 crashed into the west side of the Pentagon, the crash and resulting fire killed all 64 people aboard the plane and 125 military and civilian personnel on the ground. At 10:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into an empty field after passengers fought back against the hijackers. The likely target was the U.S. Capitol or the White House. Overall, these two dates will be remembered and everyone who was there and died.
In conclusion, The Titanic disaster, World War II, and the 9/11 attacks were each defining moments in history that revealed human vulnerability, but also resilience. Though different in scale and cause, they all reshaped the world.
