Sweet, Savory, Loved By Allison Bowser

Invented in 1500 BC, and originally used as medicine, different types of candy have existed across the world for, what seems to be, forever. Candy has also found its way into being a classic Halloween snack, the free sugar being the highlight of Halloween kids’ and teens’ alike. With the Halloween season here, people know what candies they can expect to receive due to their popularity here in America.
Reese’s Peanut Butter cups are a classic mix of sweet and savory. Adored by many (and easy to buy due to being sold in both assorted candy bags and on their own), Reese’s is a mouthwatering treat to enjoy after a long night of trick-or-treating. Toby Lorigan can vouch, as he said that he likes all peanut butter and chocolate candy. But what if someone is allergic to, or just plain doesn’t like, peanut butter? In that case, then they can enjoy M&Ms, Kit Kats, Sour Patch Kids, Twix, or even a plan old Hershey’s Chocolate bar.
Crunchy, creamy, delicious, Twix, Kit Kat, and M&Ms are next on our list. Twix is staple of brand-made controversy. The battle between Left and Right Twix is a hilarious marketing tactic (though, in my opinion, Left Twix just doesn’t taste Right). A mixture of chocolate coating, crunchy wafer, and caramel is a combination that have held people’s hearts since 1967. Luckily, just like Reese’s, these popular candies are easy to find individually or in a variety bag. If you’re gunning for something that tastes rich this Halloween, then any chocolate/caramel combo will surely sate that itch. Kit Kats are like Twix in a way (though minus the caramel). Owned by Nestle, Kit Kats combine thin wafers and a thick chocolate coating to create a deliciously good melt-in-one’s-mouth treat. They can make for a great alternative for Twix in case someone doesn’t want a caramel fix. Ditching the wafer, M&Ms are a fit-a-dozen-in-one’s-mouth kind of treat. Smaller than bite sized, M&Ms combine a colorful sugar shell and creamy chocolate inside. If one doesn’t like peanuts, then look no further as M&Ms are covered in that department as well.
And if a trick or treater is not a fan of chocolate, then Sour Patch Kids have one covered. Just as their branding claims, these gummies are sour then sweet. It’s a conflicting combination that many find dear.
Finally, an honorable mention to a classic Halloween candy few seem to enjoy, candy corn. Nevaeh Zak claims that candy corn is an underrated candy, and that she loves this sweet, multicolored treat.
